What is an Operational Group?

An Operational Group (OG) is a group of actors with different profiles, such as farmers, researchers, universities, etc. to be able to jointly address a specific problem or opportunity from a multi-sector approach.

AGRIREFIN Operational Group

The AGRIREFIN Operational Group has been formed to develop an Agricultural Biorefinery project for the valorization of plant remains from intensive horticulture and the production of compost, bioethanol and other bioproducts, for future promotion.

Specific objectives

  • The objective of the project is to develop a management model and a plant for the transformation of plant remains from intensive agriculture of a biorefinery type, and construction of an industrial-scale plant in the intensive horticulture area of the province of Almería according to the following scheme:
    • Phase I Operational Groups – Formation of consortium, drafting of project.
    • Phase II Operational Groups – Site selection, industrial partners, production testing, technological validation, detailed technical projects, financing plan, IP (intellectual property) plan.
    • Phase III – Industrial implementation and start-up (private financing and other sources).
  • For which a first phase of study of plant waste and its potential as a generator of bioethanol and bioproducts is essential, to then study the dimensioning and joint viability of the initiative (technological, economic and environmental).
  • The project also aligns with the main objectives of the EIP-agri:
    • Promote an agricultural and forestry sector that efficiently uses resources…
    • Contribute to a stable and sustainable supply of food, feed, etc.
