The OEPM and BIOVEGEN renew their collaboration agreement on Industrial Property

The Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (OEPM) and the Plant Biotechnology Technology Platform – BIOVEGEN have renewed recently his agreement to establish a framework of cooperation in order to facilitate, promote and stimulate the knowledge and use of Industrial Property (IP) rights within the Technology Platform. The renewal of this agreement will allow the establishment of a two-way channel of institutional communication between the OEPM and BIOVEGEN to boost the competitiveness of the Spanish industry in the field of innovation, a determining factor for the success and consolidation of companies.

In this regard, the agreement underlines the importance of guaranteeing the legal protection of innovation activities through the different forms of industrial property, an essential element to guarantee the owner exclusive rights over them and prevent third parties from exploiting their innovations, with patents also being powerful tools for internationalisation.

In addition, the OEPM, among other actions, commits in this agreement to provide support to train BIOVEGEN professionals in IP management, holding training sessions to raise awareness of the industrial property protection system in its various forms, the technological information services offered by the OEPM and the mechanisms for protecting R&D results. Likewise, the OEPM will also support BIOVEGEN in the processes of searching for documentation, patentability studies, patent applications and will provide a direct information service with those responsible for IP. The Patent Technology Reports and the Technology Surveillance Reports requested by BIOVEGEN They will have a discount on 30%.

The agreement was recently published in the BOE nº42 of February 18, 2025 and will have a duration of four years, extendable to another four, upon unanimous agreement of the parties.
