BIOVEGEN participates in the preparation of the COSCE report on the reform of the European regulatory framework for genome editing techniques

On October 13, the Spanish Confederation of Scientific Societies (COSCE) published a report, presented to the EU, that proposes and compares different possibilities for reforming the regulatory framework for genome editing techniques. Gonzaga, manager of BIOVEGEN, has participated as one of the authors of this document along with great experts in the sector. The COSCE report details the obstacles posed by the current legal framework in the European Union for the use of plant breeding techniques and proposes alternatives aimed at reviewing the current regulations, abandoning radical and confrontational positions. The document requests the necessary review of the regulatory framework for plant breeding techniques in the EU so that he Spanish agri-food sector can continue to be competitive and can face the challenge of productivity and sustainability demanded by climate change and global population increase.
