BIOVEGEN attends the presentation of the IV COTEC survey of social perception of innovation
On March 12, BIOVEGEN attended the presentation of the results of the «IV COTEC SURVEY OF SOCIAL PERCEPTION OF INNOVATION»which is carried out every year in collaboration with SigmaDos. This survey aims to measure the evolution of the impact of automation on employment, daily life and inequality. The differential characteristic of this IV COTEC survey has been the increase in the number of respondents: being a total of 7,300 people, which has made it possible to offer data at the regional level and design a much more complete map. The field work was carried out in the third quarter of 2020, which implies that the results collected reflect the economic and social consequences of the pandemic.
The study includes 10 general conclusions:
- The pandemic has improved the image that Spaniards have of the innovation phenomenon, while it has deteriorated its vision of Spain as an innovative country.
- R&D&i is ranked as the fourth priority of public spending for Spaniards, behind pensions. The first two, far from the rest, are health and education.
- The vast majority of Spaniards continue to think after the pandemic that The country's investment in R&D&i is insufficient and the laws do not favor innovation.
- Those who have had the experience of teleworking believe that practicing it improves family balance and does not decrease productivity.
- Most Spanish companies have plans to continue teleworking after the pandemic.
- The acceleration that teleworking experienced last year was not accompanied by advances in the right to digital disconnection.
- Spaniards believe that technological change generates more jobs than it destroys, although they also think that it increases social inequality.
- The most vulnerable groups are more pessimistic than before the pandemic regarding their ability to compete in an automated labor market.
- The pandemic does not change the unanimous opinion that the current educational system is not sufficiently preparing society for the challenges of the future.
- In up to eight autonomous communities, residents perceive that their territory is behind Spain in innovation. .
