GOCITRUS WEBINAR: Innovation in citrus varietal identification and management

Citriculture faces important challenges in terms of economic, social and environmental sustainability. Citrus identification, as well as verified and updated information on patterns and varieties, is the main basis of varietal management and planning, and constitutes one of the greatest demands of the citrus industry. The GOCITRUS Operational Group promotes a varietal authentication system based on genomic data and associates it with the development of a decision support tool for appropriate varietal choice. “These tools constitute a great opportunity for the innovative and sustainable development of the citrus sector.”

In this context, on September 8, 2020, the GOCITRUS Webinar: Innovation in citrus varietal identification and management which will have the participation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food and the members of this innovative project. The GOCITRUS Operational Group was born in 2018 in the context of the Call for the Creation of Supra-autonomous Operational Groups in relation to the European Association for Innovation in agricultural productivity and sustainability. In its first phase (corresponding to measure 16.1 of the Call) the project had as its objective the formation of a group of experts to work on the identification and appropriate selection of citrus varieties as a basis for correct varietal and production management and planning. .
