GOCITRUS: Varietal innovation and new technologies in the citrus sector

July 6, 2021

Citriculture is a strategic sector in Spain, which is world leader in production and exports. The sector faces important challenges in terms of economic, social and environmental sustainability. Citrus identification, as well as verified and updated information on patterns and varieties, is the main basis of varietal management and planning, and constitutes one of the greatest demands of the citrus industry.

He GOCITRUS Operational Group, a consortium of companies and research centers supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, has developed tools based on R&D&i to respond to these demands. GOCITRUS has promoted a varietal authentication system based on genomic data and associated it with a decision support tool for appropriate varietal choice. These tools constitute a great opportunity for the innovative and sustainable development of the citrus sector.

In this context, the next July 6, 2021 will be celebrated on GOCITRUS Webinar: Varietal innovation and new technologies in the citrus sector, which will have the participation of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and relevant entities in the sector. The event will be dedicated to presenting the final results and tools developed during the execution of this innovative project.
