The European Commission recognizes BIOVEGEN as a key player on the map of the European bioeconomy
The European Commission has published an interactive map that includes the main actors in the European bioeconomy to help design public policies in this area. BIOVEGEN has been included in this map along with four other Technology Platforms.
The interactive map, prepared by the JRC Knowledge Center for Bioeconomy (an organization dependent on the EC), indicates the degree of progress of the countries in the development of a National Bioeconomy Strategy and places Spain at the highest level, with its own strategy already underway. In addition, it allows you to consult, by country, the state institutions involved in the bioeconomy, other organizations, interested parties and the keys to the regional and national bioeconomy strategies.
You can consult the interactive map in the following link.
The X-ray published by the European Commission also allows you to consult the main figures of the European bioeconomy by country and Spain is positioned as the fifth European country in terms of business volume in this sector (€198,400 M) and added value (€57,900 M) and as the sixth country by employment in this sector, with 1.33 million people.
The bioeconomy encompasses those parts of the economy that use renewable biological resources from land and sea (crops, forests, animals and microorganisms) to produce food, materials and energy. The European Commission is strongly promoting its development due to its great potential to generate wealth and reduce unemployment and its ability to reduce polluting emissions and dependence on fossil resources, while contributing to improving biodiversity and can help restore the degraded ecosystems.
