The GIEC 2025 Conference brings together in Madrid the main players in the circular economy to promote public-private collaboration in R&D&I

Madrid, November 24, 2025. – The GIEC 2025 Annual Conference was held on November 17, 2025, in the auditorium of the State Investigation Agency (AEI) in Madrid. The meeting, organized by the Circular Economy Interplatform Group (GIEC), brought together representatives from public administrations, companies, universities and technology centers to discuss the financing opportunities and advances in the circular economy, both at the national and European levels.


The day was opened by Vicente Sales Vivó (PTFOR), representing the GIEC, accompanied by the moderator Belén García, director of PACKNET, who highlighted the role of cross-platform cooperation as a driving force for advancing industrial sustainability.
He first blockdedicated to the 2025 public-private call for proposals from the State Research AgencyIt featured the participation of Mª Ángeles Ferre, head of the Scientific-Technical Thematic Programs Subdivision, who presented the key aspects of the new framework for R&D&I collaboration funding. Following this, Carmen Martínez García and Mª Teresa Cotes Palomino, from the University of Jaén, presented the project GREENCDWaste, focused on the transformation of cork and construction and demolition waste into high value-added green materials.

After the coffee break, the second block It focused on funding opportunities within the framework of Centre for Technological Development and Innovation (CDTI), with the participation of Maria Jose Tomas, from the Department of Institutional Promotion and Territorial Cooperation. Several success stories were also presented in this space:

  • SIMBIOLIVA Operational Group, exposed by Pablo Gutiérrez (Viveros Integrales El Ejidillo), focused on new biotechnological solutions to add value to olive pomace in the olive oil sector.

  • MASCOVERSO, presented by Elisa Reyna Santos (Ayudavets, MASCOVERSO), which applies innovation and technology to transform animal health.

He third block It addressed European funding opportunities within the framework of Horizon Europe, with the intervention of Lydia González, representative of the Climate area (Cluster 5) and National Contact Point of the Environment area (Cluster 6), who offered an overview of European programs focused on green innovation.
During this session, the projects were presented. MAGNO (Alejandro Viso, CETEC), cir4FUN (Vicente Sales Vivó, AIDIMME), and VALORISH (Borja Lagoa, ANFACO-CYTMA), examples of international collaboration in key sectors such as food packaging, furniture and the valorization of fishery by-products.

The GIEC 2025 Conference It concluded by consolidating itself as a benchmark forum in promoting the circular economy through public-private cooperation, and reaffirming the GIEC's commitment to promoting sustainable innovation and cross-sector collaboration as key tools for industrial competitiveness.
