Córdoba, epicenter of national biotechnology on November 30

  • The University of Córdoba will bring together more than 300 entrepreneurs, investors and researchers to show the potential of the region's bioeconomy

30-10-23.- Cordova will be the epicenter of national biotechnology next November 30. He UCO Rectorate Assembly Hall will host a technical day that will bring together more than 300 entrepreneurs, businessmen, investors and researchers from the field of biotechnology.

In addition to showing the possibilities offered by the city of Córdoba to promote biotechnological projects, the attending professionals will be able to learn, in the morning and afternoon session, the importance of innovation as a lever for regional competitiveness and the role of the University of Córdoba as an engine of the region's knowledge economy. The technical program is made up of a twenty expert speakers confirmed, headed by Lourdes Arce, vice-rector of Innovation and Transfer of the UCO. The complete program will show the capabilities of the Córdoba Biotech bioincubator; Business initiatives in health, agri-food and environmental biotechnology will be analyzed and tools will be detailed to materialize science-business collaborations. Both the public financing (at national and regional level) and private, with investment funds specialized in biotechnology, will have a place in the event, as well as the management, project coordination and legal aspects of R&D.

The block dedicated to medical biotechnology It will be the first of the four that will take place throughout the day and will present success stories from consolidated companies and knowledge-intensive startups. Will participate Rosario Fernandez (Head of the Area, Department of Screening and Target Validation) of the Medina Foundation; Carlos Ferreiro (CEO of Phytoplant Research); Enrique Nice (CEO of NAPLATEC), as well as Xavier Nadal (director of Ethnophytotech).

After the coffee networking, it will be the turn of the block agri-food biotechnology, which will follow the same scheme: consolidated companies and biotechnology demanders along with technology developing companies. Thus, the block will have the participation of Eva Sanchez (managing director of Innoplant); Pablo Castan (CEO of Mirnax Biosens); Jose Antonio Risquez (COVAP quality director), José María Fontán (Development Director of Eurosemillas) and Vanessa Martinez (CEO of Grupo CARINSA), to finish this block.

The afternoon session will continue with the block dedicated to environmental biotechnology. The speakers will be José Ramón Fernández Navarro (Director of Innovation at Econatur), Alfredo Vera (CEO of Agrogenia Biotech); Juan José Verdes (manager of I-Grape Laboratory) and Teresa Carrillo (Balam R&D director).

The technical day will end with a final block with speakers from the CDTI, the IDEA Agency and the Department of Agriculture of the Regional Government of Andalusia, who will review the public tools for financing R&D.

To conclude, he will participate Alex Marin (managing partner of Inventium) who will analyze the role of investment funds in biotechnology; Antonio Fernandez (CEO of Vector Horizonte) who will address the management of R&D&i projects, as well as the legal aspects in the entrepreneurship and creation of technological companies by RCD Legal (hand in hand with Judith Saladrigas, partner of this intellectual property expert firm).

The UCO has entrusted the organization of this event to Agromarketing Spain with extensive experience in this field in collaboration with BIOVEGEN – Plant Biotechnology Technological Platform, an association that currently brings together 177 members (154 companies and 23 research centers) and that promotes the development of the agri-food sector through plant biotechnology.
