BIOVEGEN participated in the Conference “New tools for genetic improvement in vegetables”

On October 26, BIOVEGEN attended the event "New tools for genetic improvement in vegetables" organized by Cajamar and Agrofor, where the AGROFOR platform was presented, which aims to promote public/private interaction in plant improvement. In addition, this Conference discussed the integration of new biotechnological technologies in breeding programs to increase efficiency in the development of varieties that respond to current challenges.

During the meeting, Gonzaga Ruiz de Gauna, Manager of BIOVEGEN, participated as moderator in the Round Table “The need to apply new technologies in plant improvement”, at 12:30 p.m.

Due to the presence of several members of the FITONET Operational Group, Rosa Ana Malvar, researcher at the Biological Mission of Galicia – CSIC (AGROFOR), presented the evolution of this innovative project aimed at the development of a digital environment and living laboratories to value the plant genetic resources of agricultural interest.

FitoNet aims to implement an information transfer system based on a wide network of collections with pre-breeding and improvement plant varieties, increase the genetic diversity of crops and develop a dynamic professional social network, generating experiences that show farmers, to the food sector and society in general the importance of using biodiversity to obtain quality, sustainable and profitable products and crops.
